Study Business in China: CSCA Subjects and Application Guide (2026–27)
Planning a business bachelor’s degree in China? Compare official 2026 CSCA subject lists for English- and Chinese-taught programs, then use a practical checklist for 2027 applications.
A business degree in China can mean International Economy and Trade, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or another named program. Those labels do not tell you which CSCA papers to book. In one Jinan University 2026 admissions list, three English-taught business programs ask for Mathematics alone, while its Chinese-taught Business Administration asks for Chinese and Mathematics for liberal arts majors. Shanxi University’s 2026 list instead specifies Science Chinese and Mathematics for Chinese-taught Business Administration. The useful rule is simple: choose papers from each university’s current program list, not from the word ‘business’.
Which business degrees can international students study?
Start with the degree title and teaching language, then read the course plan. A program called International Economy and Trade may emphasize trade policy and quantitative economics; Accounting and Finance can require stronger mathematics. Business Administration can cover management, operations and marketing. These descriptions are ways to compare courses, not guarantees about a university’s curriculum. Jinan’s 2026 list includes English-taught International Economy and Trade, Accounting and Finance, and Chinese-taught Business Administration and Accounting. Shanxi’s 2026 notice lists Chinese-taught International Economics and Trade and Business Administration. A bachelor’s degree is different from an MBA: the CSCA described here is an undergraduate entrance assessment, so do not apply these subject rules to a graduate MBA.
What CSCA subjects do business applicants need?
Mathematics is the common paper. The additional paper depends on the exact university and program. These examples come from 2026 admissions notices, not a universal subject table:
- Jinan University, English-taught International Economy and Trade, Accounting and Finance: Mathematics is the CSCA subject shown in its 2026 list.
- Jinan University, Chinese-taught Business Administration and related management programs: the same 2026 list shows Chinese and Mathematics for liberal arts majors.
- Shanxi University, Chinese-taught Business Administration and International Economics and Trade: its 2026 appendix lists Science Chinese and Mathematics. It also says applicants for these Chinese-taught programs must choose Chinese-language CSCA papers.
- A program at another university may ask for a science paper. Never assume that one of these three examples applies to your other choices.
The difference between Jinan and Shanxi is particularly important for Professional Chinese: even Chinese-taught business programs do not all use the same track. If you are applying to several universities, write each requirement in a small comparison table before registering. Our CSCA subjects by major guide has more named university examples. For paper format and scoring, see the CSCA exam overview. Each paper is scored from 0 to 100; a claimed universal ‘650+ CSCA score’ is incompatible with that scoring system.
English-taught or Chinese-taught: how should you choose?
Choose the language in which you can learn the course material well and meet the university’s stated entry standard. Jinan’s 2026 guide separates its English-taught International School courses from its Chinese-taught schools; their CSCA subject lists differ. Shanxi’s 2026 business programs in the notice are Chinese-taught and list HSK 4 alongside CSCA results. Do not treat HSK and Professional Chinese as interchangeable: one is a language qualification, while the other is a CSCA paper. Check the current notice for both requirements and the language in which Mathematics must be taken. If a Chinese Government Scholarship is involved, published guidance on Professional Chinese for fully English-taught applicants is not entirely consistent. Ask the university or scholarship office for a written answer for your exact route. Our English or Chinese CSCA paper guide explains that decision in more detail.
What else belongs in the application?
CSCA is only one part of admission. Jinan’s 2026 guide lists a high-school qualification, academic records and program-specific requirements. Shanxi’s 2026 notice lists a high-school certificate, transcript, passport copy, HSK 4 certificate, CSCA score report and other documents for its listed Chinese-taught programs. These are examples from named universities, not a checklist that fits every application. Some programs may also interview applicants. Check whether you apply on the university’s own portal, through a scholarship portal, or both, and keep copies of the exact notice you followed.
A practical shortlist and application workflow
Choose a named bachelor’s program
List each university, degree title, campus and teaching language. Keep undergraduate and graduate programs separate.
Read the current international admissions notice
Record CSCA subjects, paper language, HSK or English-language evidence, scholarship route and application deadline for the intake you want.
Resolve conflicting subject lists
If a central CSCA guide and university notice appear to disagree, email the university’s admissions or scholarship office and keep its written answer.
Book the required papers on csca.cn
Use the official exam website for the current session, fee and registration window. Leave time for the score report before your university’s deadline.
Prepare and apply
Study Mathematics and any other required paper, assemble the university’s requested documents, and submit through its stated application portal.
How do you prepare for the business route?
Because Mathematics appears in all three named examples above, begin with the official-topic CSCA mathematics syllabus guide. Mark the areas your school covered and those you need to relearn. Work some questions without a timer first, then practise single-choice questions under the real paper’s time limit. Use the free CSCA mathematics practice to find weak topics. If your university asks for Professional Chinese, prepare the Humanities or Science track it actually lists; do not infer a track from the degree name. These are preparation exercises from CSCA.ai, an independent platform, not official past papers or admission decisions.
Questions business applicants often ask
Do I need Physics or Chemistry for business? Not in Jinan’s 2026 English-taught business examples or Shanxi’s 2026 Chinese-taught business examples, but another program can set different requirements. Read every target university’s current list. Is there one passing score for all business degrees? No. CSCA papers use separate 0–100 scores and universities decide how to use them. Does an MBA applicant take CSCA? The CSCA is for undergraduate applications; consult the MBA program’s own graduate requirements. Can I apply with an English-taught program and no Chinese paper? Some university lists exempt English-taught applicants, while scholarship guidance can differ. Confirm your exact program and funding route in writing before registration.
